Voorheen Wobly

Begin 2006 werd ik geinterviewd door Roel Willems van Wobly.nl, “een muzieksite met een link naar diverse artistieke uitingen”. Wobly verdween een tijdje geleden, maar de site is onlangs uit de as herrezen onder de naam Poptronique.nl.

Het hele Wobly-archief is te raadplegen via de vernieuwde site, maar uiteraard wordt er ook nieuw materiaal geplaatst.

En zien we daar bekende namen? Inderdaad, het is de bedoeling dat ik regelmatig bijdragen ga leveren aan Poptronique. Het feit dat er onder mijn eerste bijdrage een interview met WM Recordings-artiest brunk staat, is natuurlijk geheel toevallig!

Het vierde album van brunk op WM Recordings alweer. Ook deze keer schotelt onze Belgische vriend ons een brunkiaanse mengelmoes voor: “A DIY eighties soundtrack filled with dusty hip hop beats, grooving bluesrock and straight forward metal riffs, heroic lo-fi guitar soloing and weird synth sounds”.

Een beetje vreemd, maar wel lekker!

N.B. later deze week verschijnt er nog een nieuw brunk album op het Duitse netlabel Resting Bell.

Nieuw op WM Recordings

Begin april verscheen er voor het eerst een album van brunk op WM Recordings. Vandaag is daar een tweede release bijgekomen: none of the above.

‘none of the above‘, the follow-up to ‘ sept 2003 ‘, is a further exploration of the melancholic and more accessible side of brunk. It has a quiet vibe and mostly slow songs. Once again these songs are made of overdubbed and edited layers of cut-and-pasted guitars, softwaresynths, samples, beats etc; with at the same time lots of improvised elements and spontanuous aspects, uncorrected imperfections and a perhaps slightly naieve ‘homerecording lo-fi’ touch.

Nieuw op WM Recordings

De nieuwste gratis download op WM Recordings:

brunk is Bert Vanden Berghe, DIY lowbudget homerecording, without any musical restrictions or stylistic premises. The songs on ‘sept 2003′ were made somewhere between 2000 and september 2003. It’s not easy to describe or to pigeonhole, but I guess the music brunk recorded in those days had a certain pop kitsch factor, a naïeve but eclectic touch, and tries to explore some musical boundaries in a very personal way. There are some hints and twists that point in the direction of the more experimental stuff he’s doing recently, but all in all this one shows the more melodic and accessible side of brunk.
